February 2008. I was in the midst of this painting when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It was the beginning of a series the by the end was dubbed the Myth of Creation series ( of mostly large work ) It signalled the blessing that i would eventually come to understand that multiple sclerosis is.
I started building some of the the stretchers in January with this being the first to be stretched and primed for battle. The reference was taken by my dad one morning in 2002, on the beach of the Pacific Rim National Park, just south of Tofino, British Columbia. It personified all that is beautiful in this life. Nature and Sunlight. Trees and Ocean. It was symbolic of the mental and physical struggle that I was unknowingly about to process...With this series, I was planning to start with morning light, and finish with the darkness (filled with lights) of the universe. This beginning piece broadly spoke of us in nature - creation, in creation. subtext: finite resources.
This is a colour modification version: a remix, of the glorious sunrise by itself.
